Perhaps I should preface this with a statement that I enjoy figurative art more than abstract. Although, there is some abstract art which I like and perhaps even understand. I don't know anything about Richter (vaguely seem to remember looking at some of the stuff when I was studying art history..but my memory is unreliable, so I could be thinking of someone else). I looked at the painting that you presented here, and I just stared at for a good five minutes. And I am afraid I don't understand it or particularly enjoy it. My question to you is am I missing something? Or what is this valuable thing about "super abstract" art that I am missing? I see no harmony, no form, and it doesn't speak to me. It is hollow. I have been faced with abstract art many times, and it has always failed to draw me in to sit in front of it either in silence or to have coherent philosophical thought on it. Is art, in the end, a matter of "taste"? I tend not to think that. But then there is this nasty shadow of abstract art that lurkes behind me. Thanks in advance for your comments, Mr. Pannero.
